and if you find a good place it is simply on a different level from even the best artisan stuff you can get in London. We found a place near the Baths of Diocletian in Rome that was down a maze of quiet side streets. It was rammed with locals for both lunch and dinner every day. We ate there twice having totally different pizzas each time and it was the best I have ever eaten and just about half the price of a UK chain offering like Pizza Express. Similar experience in Naples.
Even the very best Italian American pizza is poor in comparison. I have eaten at top-rated places in both Chicago (Gino’s, Giordano’s original) and NY (Napoletana, John’s), all of which stacked up well v UK but not Italy.
