...especially in Bonzo's drumming, but no, I wouldn't class them as metal either - but then again, I've always been crap at genres, and even the line between "rock" and "metal" has become very blurred, with lots of bands/songs having elements of both - sub-genres even more so! Previous Message
Although I think they are miles better than BS ever were, it's a different genre, to me.
BS had the secret sauce, something hard to put your finger on - it wasn't completely about the music, it was a feeling, that doom. The first 2 albums are like hammer horror does rock and that set the scene. If anything Deep Purple carried it on and then Priest, for me, really started the modern sound, but BS - the real first ones to do "heavy metal" without the prog, blues and psych influences front and ahead. ...Ronnie James Dio is difficult to top for me, but influence-wise, nearly every metal band and fan on the planet would acknowledge that Ozzy and Lemmy were unsurpassable. Previous Message
High pitch in full voice wasn’t Ozzy’s trademark in the same way as Gillan’s, and that used to be the main model until the ”singers” started growl and roar. Previous Message
