My favourites as a teenager were Twisted Sisters, W.A.S.P. and Accept.
But funnily enough I have never thought of Purple that way.
Another one from the same era would be Robert Plant... although whether he was a heavy metal singer is another question.

High pitch in full voice wasn’t Ozzy’s trademark in the same way as Gillan’s, and that used to be the main model until the ”singers” started growl and roar. Previous Message Previous Message
