As a result of this stance, we (collectively) spoke to several members of the House of Lords when it was going through there, and several MPs when it went through Parliament, with some suggested amendments to try to include fans and fan groups in the legislation.
Whether it's the right or the wrong thing for football, I honestly don't know, and the proof of the pudding will be in the eating (and for me the key factor in that will be if the regulator actually has any teeth or can just be overridden) - however my over-riding factor in thinking that it's probably a good thing was seeing who the most vocal opponents of it were - the likes of Karren Brady, Richard Masters, Kemi Badenoch, Rupert Lowe and Simon Jordan opposing it probably says a lot - and I still firmly beleive that (although the club DID make a lot of mistakes) the treatment of EFC was absolutely an attempt by the PL to try to stop the IFR coming in - I think they used us (and Forest) in an attempt to show that they could keep their own house in order - and failed miserably of course.
I suspect that the reality will be a much "lighter touch" regulator than is probably needed, but it's a start at least. Previous Message
The law bringing in an Independent Football Regulator has now been given royal ascent.
I’d really like to hear your thoughts. It sounds like a good thing for us but I trust this group to point out flaws and positives I haven’t thought of
