It sounds like our GK pathway is quite highly rated:
Apparently Man City wanted to pay £10m (!!) for Douglass Lukjanciks (17) but he's just signed a new contract and should be with the u21s next season.
George Pickford (18) is also highly rated and played 9 games for the u21s last year.
Goodness Gospel-Eze and Seve Patrick are the current u18s and some may remember for the test event we had 19 year old UAE player Abdulla Alhammadi on trial - it sounds like we didn't offer him a contract but he has been training with the club.
Harry Tyrer has played full seasons on loan at Chester, Chesterfield and Blackpool and is 24. So he's a proper first team squad member, not a youth player.
Currently our GK slots are:
Pickford (31, and England no.1)
Mark Travers (26, and lots of PL experience)
Tyrer (24 although maybe he'll be out on loan again)
I can understand why we let Begovic and Virginia go. There seems to be 2 options at each of the u21 and u18 ages and good competition coming through.
Apparently yesterday we paid Liverpool £200,000 for Ruben Savvas, who is just 14.
So while we gnash our teeth at lack of progress at RW, CM, RB I think we are quietly and diligently setting up a promising pathway of GKs.
