My concern is that the profile of centre forward that has often worked well for Everton (and Moyes) is a strong physical presence who might not score a lot of goals but does the hard work to allow chance creation around him.
We already have a centre forward who is young, a bit raw, but good in the air, quick, highly rated: Chermiti. We've not seen much of him so can't really decide whether he's the right profile just not good enough, or not physical and good enough with ball to feet and back to goal.
Barry looks a much stronger prospect than Chermiti but quite limited data. 3 years ago he was playing in Belgium (stick Beto in the Belgian lower leagues and then compare goalscoring stats!)
Delap, Evan Ferguson - yes, I see the advantages and how they'd work well. Will Barry be a slightly better Chermiti? Poor mans Isak?
Reading that article about Barry he's going to play off the shoulder, drag defenders out of their comfort zone, find space in the box, and be on the end of chances (typically first time shots). Moyes has some experience with those type of player - we all remember that first season of Jelavic. It was always a shame we didn't get to see how Moyes would have handled Lukaku, and we know from Ancelotti how different DCL looked when he was told to stay in the penalty box and concentrate on scoring goals. Let's hope the rest of the recruitment (particularly right wing) is geared towards getting the best out of someone that can score 15+
My instinct is to be a bit cautious with Barry. He seems quite raw and the Premier League is a massive step up from him. Getting him in at the start of pre-season is therefore important and having Beto as a ready to go option should ease the pressure of having to hit the ground running. But the more I read the more excited I am!
