Right now he can play wide right or 10. Longer term he might be best more centrally as an advanced 8 in a midfield 3. The Osman comparison is not bad at all. He’d definitely need some experience behind and around him as he gets to grips with Moyes’ defensive expectations. The squad definitely needs pace on the right but that could come from a RB as Moyes typically likes his wide guys to play narrow (even Bowen who had pace played narrower at West Ham than Hull). People refer to him as a winger but I've seen him described as a new Bernardo Silva. Seems to me he is a technically accomplished, perhaps a bit lightweight, starts wide but best drifting inside. Also seems to have good leadership.
Sounds like he'd be an Osman type player (but with a higher ceiling). My concerns:
- Will we have a strong RB who can overlap and utilise that space on the outside?
- Given that N'diaye and McNeil are also technically proficient and skillful players who start wide but drift inside, do we want the same profile on the right?
Or might Moyes be seeing McAtee as more of a no.10, to compete with Alcaraz?
In other words, would we still try to recruit a pacey and direct wide forward?
Don't know the PSR calculations, but I'm assuming we have funds for max 3 £20m+ signings?
