Much as I don’t rate Keane, it makes sense given where we’re currently at with better but still limited room to move under PSR.

Echo reporting that we had a few agreed with Brighton, but Moyes wanted to try again to offer a contract to Keane.
Based on that alone, I’m glad we’ve re-signed Keane.
There is definitely part of me that shudders whenever he enters the pitch, and I don’t find the “play him as a centre forward” jokes funny. I was hoping that by the start of next season we’d have a transformed squad and watching a panicky Keane at centre back, or a Hail Mary Keane at centre forward, would be consigned to the past.
I don’t know anything about Webster but purely for the signal I was ok with him coming in. And it’d vacate the no.5 shirt for Branthwaite.
It’s clear though Moyes rates Keane more than Webster, backs himself as a coach to get the best out of Keane - and tail end of last season you have to acknowledge that Keane looked a better player. New season, fresh start, etc.
I’m pretty sure that any reasonable person would say Keane > Webster so it’s a no brainer.
Hopefully we announce Gueye soon, then get on with improving quality across the pitch. And maybe give Branthwaite no.4 - a good number for Everton centre halves. Previous Message
The angst over it is way overblown. We have far more pressing needs than finding cover there.
This of course comes with the added bonus of sending Rob Vera close to the edge, so I'm all for it.
