Apart from Bob Latchford, whom I idolised, and Andy King, who everybody just had to love, Dobbo was my favourite player as a kid. A very fine player, and if ever an Everton player looked like an Old Skool Hollywood movie star, then that was Dobbo.

I especially like how Trevor Steven tells in Howard’s Way, how – while as a teenager he was still at Burnley – Dobson came to him in the dressing room, straightened him up by his collar and said ”Dress smart. Play smart. Be smart.” (if memory serves me right). That was exactly what I would have expected from Dobbo!
