As a 4th choice defender, I'd say he's probably as good as we could expect. The alternative would be a young, untried 'one for the future' who would probably be full of errors initially, or a journeyman older defender. Given that choice, I'm happy for now to offer Keane a new contract.
Whilst he does sometimes seem to attract tragedy on the pitch, I'd say on balance, he's a fairly solid defender. The errors stand out, but he's played multiple games for us in which he's looked solid and dependable.
He offers us a genuine threat from set pieces (scoring).
He's rarely, if ever, injured.
He wouldn't need any settling in period.
It allows us to invest funds elsewhere where there are definite priorities.
Let's face it, it's a no brainer bit of business this summer.

Pleased about that at one time was counting the clock down till he left.
He's proven he can play at this level happy to be a squad player saves spending money on a back up..
We need to make sure we get behind now whenever he's called upon.
This also probably means JOB is starting as 1st Choice right back next season. I suspect missing out on that Fulham lad has played a large part in this decision. Previous Message
