My mate was his coach at NYCFC and spoke very highly of Alex.
Congratulations to him on a great career. Previous Message
After 13 years abroad (five in Bundesliga and Zweite, and eight in the MLS with NYCFC and Austin FC), my son-in-law Alex returned to Finland at the start of this year. As it happened, only days before he signed a two-year contract with HJK Helsinki, Teemu Pukki also returned to the club, that they both left after a double-winning season 2011, Teemu joining Schalke 04 and Alex going to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Funny to see how even at 34, Alex is running the show. The team started disastrously with three defeats and consequently sacked their head coach, but have since then gone from strenght to strength and are now topping the table. Alex started in his favoured DM position, but was then moved to false nine, and this was a masterstroke, as with Pukki he forms a lethal duo. He has now scored six goals in last seven games, and picked the Player of the Month award for May (the season runs from April to November). There's been some talk of a return to the Finland side, but I don't know if that'll happen.
It's been great to be able to follow his games from a shouting distance after so long time.
