A mate of mine was in a hotel lobby meeting someone & he said the lift doors opened & Brian got out with someone else, who went over to the front desk.
He said he was starstruck, but not as much as when Brian sat down at the piano in the lobby & started playing!
Then his minder came over & said “come on Brian, this isn’t the gig….” & led him away.
My mate said it was the greatest & the shittest thing he’d ever seen….. Previous Message
I brought 2 of my kids when he toured Pet Sounds about 10 years ago. We were centre stage in the 3rd row and it was a glorious night of music. The musicians were excellent.
Brian was walked to his piano and away again at the end of the night, he sang the songs etc but it was probably one of the saddest sights I’d ever seen in a concert hall (Bord Gais Theatre in Dublin). I’d have been surprised if the man even knew where he was that night.
However he *was* a musical genius although I feel as brilliant as he was at his apex, the decline was significant. I fully recommend the Long Promised Road documentary.
Sad world tonight
