Highlighting Wood as he was not high on other PL clubs radar but prolific when supported.

The previous season DCL
26 starts
5 non penalty goals from an non pen xG of 11.4
Chris Wood last season has 17 non pen goals from an xG of 11
The previous season got 14 from an xG of 11.9
So, seeing as you were using Chris Wood as an example, in the last 2 seasons he has had approx the same amount as xG created for him as DCL in 2023/24 - Wood's goal return was 17 and 14 compared to DCL's 5 goals
Maybe DCL is just a shite finisher ?
Maybe if we'd got Chris Wood 2 seasons ago he'd have still scored 1 in 2 compared to DCL's 1 in 5 Previous Message
In my humble opinion neither are good enough.
One is always injured and the other hustles and bustles. Both had one perceived purple patch.
Their return is poor.
Chris Wood last season hit 1 goal every 2 games although he did have pacey wingers and an attacking central midfield.
We need a Chris Wood whoever that is. DCL and/or Beto can remain as back up. Without someone who hits around 1 in 3 we will not move forward. Our last striker who delivered 1 in 3 was Yakubu which was nearly 20 years ago.
Hopefully we have something lined up with the relevant support to provide the ammunition.
