Beto's performances improved coincidentally as balls were played beyond him in channels rather than to him. He clearly, currently, lacks the skills to hold up play. something that is being worked on with him to improve. His ability in the air I think is relatively good and his strength is excellent.
DCL performances have improved since we started getting other players around him. His lack of confidence in 1 on 1 positions is somewhat worrying, though he has shown he can do it previously. His hold up play is excellent and ability to win balls in the air is also excellent. I don't think he's as strong as he should. The notion that he is injury prone is defendable but I think a little harsh. Personally would have loved to see wingers getting beyond him to cross, unfortunately because our previous manager tactics were based on set pieces and DCL's last hamstring injury (funny how starting to use your pace ends up with this type of injury. I guess Branthwaite will also be labelled an injury prone player soon also), but a mobile forward formation would, I believe, suite DCL. Anyway matters not he's off I wish him all the best. Funny how people who don't want him still castigate him even when he's leaving. Previous Message
In my humble opinion neither are good enough.
One is always injured and the other hustles and bustles. Both had one perceived purple patch.
Their return is poor.
Chris Wood last season hit 1 goal every 2 games although he did have pacey wingers and an attacking central midfield.
We need a Chris Wood whoever that is. DCL and/or Beto can remain as back up. Without someone who hits around 1 in 3 we will not move forward. Our last striker who delivered 1 in 3 was Yakubu which was nearly 20 years ago.
Hopefully we have something lined up with the relevant support to provide the ammunition.
