I don't think it was so much the turning point, but I think people recognise that it may well have been a straw / camel moment for Kendall's reign. As would the Gillingham game have been, if we'd lost that.
As you say, the turnaround had started much earlier. Despite the boos ringing around the ground in the December games, there'd been glimpses of potential for 12 months, but I would say the signing of Gray in November 83 was the real catalyst. You suddenly had the Reid / Gray double act in the dressing room, bouncing off each other, and of course, both were top class players, Reid PFA POTY in 85, Gray in 77 while also winning YPOTY. Quite the achievement! Previous Message
as pep would say "so,so good"
Peter Reid turning up to his first training session hungover to death, getting lapped by Howard and then asking Reidy if he liked a drink "not going to lie, i do boss" ... "You'll fit right in here lad"
Neville in a cab going through Toxteth to Everton after signing. "Have they set the place on fire for me? this is great. Do they do this for all the players?"
Funny how the Kevin Brock moment is always pinpointed as the turning point for us. But things had already started to improve in the previous couple of games. And arguably the promotion of Harvey from reserve team coach to assistant was the biggest factor. I fucking love Colin Harvey
