Apparently, they we're worried that Del Toro might be too exposed if there was an attack and he didn't have enough helpers. It seems they thought the only danger was Carapaz and completely underestimated Simon Yates. Also knowing it was no-one less than Wout van Aert up front should have had alarm bells ringing loudly in both UAE and EF camps.
Excelkent tactics by Visna, superb from Van Aert
and a brilliant ride from Simon Yates who may have been targeting this stage after his nightmare on Finestre in 2018.

you actually have to ride to win a bike rice.
Carapaz and del Toro basically refusing to go full gas for some bizarre reason as Yates went away. Baffled.
I'd go as far as to say they have damaged the reputations of their teams and if I was a major sponsor I'd want some answers.
Perhaps saying to Pogacar "just win it" is UAE's only strategy. Previous Message
Wow a brilliant achievement nearly 2 minutes behind on the final
Day and broke the leaders on a breakaway and dominated them on the stage.
