my ex missus for once in her bone fcuking idle life actually brought my mids up to stay with me for half term. this was on Monday.
I travelled in via train at Mossley hill. On the train my daughter vid called me and her ring tone is spirit of the blues.
In a cramped carriage it rang out. Eyes were cast on me and me being me said enjoy your day out in our city don't make a fcuking mess.
Nothing came back.
Getting into lime st went for a pint- every training from brim, Manny, Newcastle, Leeds were chock full with the red hordes. it was day trip central.
I got a pint in lime street waiting for my ex to land and was amongst a table of reds- 6 from durham who only get to one game a year. And a group of 12 from Surrey- wh have never been able to get a ticket.
I explained I supported Everton and to enjoy their day. Their knowledge was woeful- the Surrey ones had n o idea they were at our ground. One of the durham lot though they were formed first. It was fcuking embarrassing.
The train was due in so I headed to the platform which was chocker. And walked through them I'm not moving they parted like good tourists should.
I then got my kids- My ex and her partner then went off to have a couple of hors in Liverpool. this was at 3. they ended up getting to Birmingham for 2a.m then the train cos put on taxis to London. my ex said it was mayhem but that there didnt appear to be any locals.
As for numbers - don't believe any of this 1.5 million myth.
if you consider the national attracts 150,000 over 3 days I reckon there were about 250,000- still big figures but I would estimate for our last game there were 70,000 at the ground and in town.
are they bigger in terms of support and global reach?
Yes.
Why?
Because like any team that wins stuff they attract people who in another life would support the Harlem globetrotters for the win.
The money it will have brought in will be great for the city. But is it a reflection on our city? Nope? The rose of mossley was full of reds. None of them going into town because of the buses and trains being all over the place.
In short red support on Monday was no more reflective on the city than if the stones played the echo and people asked where are the Beatles fans?
Me, personally, I love the fact we have our local roots, our season tickets numbers and our working the community are far more indicative of us as a team and people than the sub 6,000 tickets they have for l postcodes or the compulsory purchase orders to kick local residents out of their homes.
Brian Labone said one of us is worth 20 of them, I sed to think it ws trite but I get it now completely.
Huge global brand at what cost? A loss of local identity. Ye some success but they are just a group of glory hunters who will wave the flag and sing the song while doing hub caps jokes with Keith in accounts come Monday.
Quality beats quantity.
We leave our ground and not a single issue occurs. Every time lFC congregate whether it be fireworks at the liver buildings, stabbings or general crowd trouble you know they are wrong-uns.
They are gutted we have a new ground. Our away supports embarrasses them. When it matters Everton are always in attendance. When they went Paris they got more than they bargained for with locals and put in combo claims. because its what they do.
Their fanbase is laughably bad. Its like a religion but one where they forget to read the sacred text and just sing their favourite hymn while forgetting the commandments.
Gang of Cnuts basically.
