...if any other player is caught in the face, whether accidentally or not, the play is stopped for a head injury and there is usually also a VAR check...unless you're Everton? Happened again with Garner there in the first half, and actually cost us a goal a few games ago against Ipswich when Patterson went down with a head injury in their half but the referee didn't stop play, they broke and scored. Other teams (especially Arsenal at Goodison last season) almost seem to use it as a tactic - going down holding their head if they get a knock on the ankle - and the referees just buy it, but it doesn't seem to happen for us even for genuine cases. PS - Gordon should also have been booked for a blatant dive, Young was 100% correct to be furious at both Gordon and the referee for missing it. |
