If we went down the road of what you are saying then we would never have brought in Tarkowski because he was never going to have a sell on value or Ashley Young
I wouldn't want us to be giving Doucoure a 3 year deal on £100k/week but the resale value part is fairly irrelevant - you almost have to treat it as a loan deal where we are just paying the wages
Is Doucoure going to be worth £100k a week to us for the next 2 years, then probably no but that's what Jack Harrison has probably cost us for 2 years
The other thing with Doucoure is that he has been 1st choice under Moyes since Moyes came despite bringing in a loan replacement in Jan so we better have someone better lined up because although he looks ungainly our results have been much better with Doucoure in the side in the last couple of years Previous Message
But the rebuilding job in the summer is huge and each regular first team player that goes leaves another position to fill.
On the flip side, I’m glad we’re no longer handing out massive contracts to players who have no resale value and who aren’t good enough on the pitch so in isolation of everything else it’s the right thing to let him go.
We have to trust that there is a plan, going to be a bumpy summer and the start to the season will be rocky (no change there then) with lots of new faces all trying to settle in.
I hope we can get enough business done early to offset some of that, going to be interesting, let’s face it, it’s never dull!

Reported in multiple places, including Buxton who seems to be quoting him.
