My wife was born in Japan and is half Japanese. Her father was in the US Navy. She came to the US when she was 3 months old.
We were there in 2023 and plan togo again for VA Sakura season in the Spring of 2026. The Yen has been very weak against the USD and most things seemed cheap. There is no tipping expected.
In Tokyo there.are apparently 160,000 restaurants. A lot of them are very small and may specialize on one item like Tonkatsu or Curry.
Viewing Mt. Fuji is amazing. We like Tokyo, Kyoto. Osaka, Yokohama and a fave of our is Kamikura which is closer to Tokyo. Nikko is interesting visiting the memorial to the last Shogun (not Tom Cruise).
The Shinkansen (Bullet trains) are amazing and if you have young kids there is a Hello Kitty train from Osaka.
Tokyo has two Disney parks Tokyo Disney and DisneySea. They’ve less than half the price of Disney land in California.
Tokyo is very clean and very safe. Previous Message
Anyone been?
I’ve got flights booked (BA Airmiles👍🏻 ) for December & now getting round to booking hotels & sketching an itinerary.
I’m in & out of Tokyo so want to start there & finish in Kyoto over a 2 week stay.
Any suggestions which area of Tokyo to stay in & why please?
Have to confess I’m a bit overwhelmed on where to start x just taking pot luck….
Any hotel suggestions following on from that?
Anything off the beaten track we should consider?
