Playing dumb to it works most of the time. Kids generally accept that it’s nonsense but it’s their lexicon and they’ll look back with the same perspective we now have. I delight it using it incorrectly to them and selecting cultural references that are just before their time and deliberately misusing them.

I'm fully aware that we were the annoying generation to our parents in our turn and as a result don't hold any of this against the youngsters.

It's just that I'm just comfortable enough with my slide into middle age to acknowledge that the language of youth is not for me. I try very hard not to let them know that the things they say hurt my brain, and frequently remind myself (and less forgiving contemporaries!) that this is what we sounded like to the older generations too!
