... affected me most particularly at night and wrecked whatever sleep patterns that I had. A work colleague had noticed me taking a tablet with my lunch, and had asked me what I was taking. When I told her that I was taking statins, she asked if I experienced muscle problems. That was the first time that I connected the agonising cramps statins. I decided to lay off the statins for a few days just to see if they were the cause of the leg cramps at night. The cramps ceased almost immediately. I mentioned this to the GP, who prescribed me a different type of statin. The cramps re-appeared within a matter of days. Then a third variety was trialled; same result. Haven't been on statins since.

I’m 66.
I had a general blood test recently and I’ve had a message to contact my GP to discuss statins, so I’m assuming my cholesterol is high. My missus controls our diet and we eat very healthy so she’s latched on to me liking a drink (I’m not an alchy but I do drink wine a lot) and having real butter on my toast.
I’ve heard lots of scare stories re statins. Is there any substance in that? If so should I take the healthy option? Or can I take statins and happily get pissed every weekend?
