I have type 1 diabetes and almost 30 years ago my then Doc put all of his diabetes patients on Aspirin and statins. I got Lipitor and took it for over ten years.

I was getting more and more aches and pains in my joints, but putting it down to arthritis.... until one day I was struggling to get up out of a chair in my local and one of the regulars asked me if I was on Lipitor? I said yes and he told ne to go off it for three days and see what happens. Needless to say, by day three I was pain free. I went back to the Doc and he blamed the nurses for not taking me off them .

I stayed off them and eight years later, I ended up needing a stent and was put back on the statin's.... but a different type and only every second day. My cholesterol is 4.5 and not causing alarm.

The only other thing I found out about statins was that they are known to thin out your arteries over long term use. I would talk to your Doc and see can you try one every three days and see how that works out..... they can be a life saver in terms of controlling cholesterol.
