I had statins for 15 plus years, I got fed up really strong cramps in my legs at night- not sports injury cramps. My doc ( I had moved to Ireland about this time ) said as my cholesterol wasn’t off the Richter scale, would suspend the need for statins, while waiting for an angiogram (6/7 weeks). Suddenly I found I was no longer constipated. Angiogram was not all clear, but not a death sentence. Gave up bacon and salami, increased exercise, a 5 mile walk once a week(hilly) cholesterol dropped. Salami I only have at friends functions. Bacon has become bacon/ham joint- eaten hot, then cold to finished sliced. Have not had statins or constipation for 5 years Previous Message

I’m 66.
I had a general blood test recently and I’ve had a message to contact my GP to discuss statins, so I’m assuming my cholesterol is high. My missus controls our diet and we eat very healthy so she’s latched on to me liking a drink (I’m not an alchy but I do drink wine a lot) and having real butter on my toast.
I’ve heard lots of scare stories re statins. Is there any substance in that? If so should I take the healthy option? Or can I take statins and happily get pissed every weekend?
