Was on a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme with my school.

Gutted that it was being played whilst I was away.

In the days of no phones, no internet, a heavy rucksack to big to carry a small radio… I was completely clueless to how we had done.

On the Thursday the next day we camped overnight in this field near Capel Curig.

Walked into the village and there was nothing.
No phone box.

All shops Closed.

Dead quiet.

So walked to local boozer (against school rules) with pretence .. can I use your toilet and buy glass of coke.

Asked the barmen… errm hey mate how did Everton get on.

Shook his head.

He could see how devastated I had started to become.

Sorry son… they got beat 1-0.

Silence.

Nah… actually they won 3-1.

I think I then woke up all the living (and the dead) in Capel Curig with the loudest cheer I have ever done.

Damn. Would have loved to have been there.
