Let's say we spend £100 million this summer. Just one signing wrong, assuming we sign 5 players, means a waste of £20 million plus wages, probably £30 million over long contract. Just one fuck up like that means that the extra revenue streams we're trying to get mean nothing. Just look at the people we have signed over the years and how much we have paid them.
So I'm all for being very choosy and taking recruitment slow. We just cannot do what we've done for the last 7 or 8 or 9 years - take risks, spunk the cash on maybe players or players who are 28/29 and then be completely screwed if we don't make Europe or whatever. I'd rather a 4 or 5 year plan where we only buy players we are close to certain will have the right impact and character rather than jump into bed with players we think may improve us or have little chance of having resale value.
Not spending money on shite should be our number one priority. Previous Message
if the fee is 18mil then we are playing a high risk strategy if the plan is to try negotiate it down
plenty of prem clubs dont think twice about lashing 20mil around on a risk
I wonder if we are in for another couple of years of scrimping and saving whilst Bournemouth Brentford Fulham et al, splash cash around.
