The old colony-style world is an excellent allegory. You had your privileged white folks living in mansions living like kings served by the few lucky locals.
Of course the big difference is there are far more of us now so unless they develop a synthetic food that is practically free there will be a culling, but it happens naturally. And of course life expectancy for majority will drop dramatically because there is practically no affordable health service and housing quality will drop.
