You have an existing scouting/recruitment structure, with a list of targets, and presumably progress on sounding them out.
The major problem would be if Thelwell wants to sign players that you don't want, or refuses to bring in players that you do.
But hopefully the Venn diagram of "players Thelwell likes" and "players Moyes likes" is big enough to find common ground, especially since you'd assume they'd be on the same page about what type of player is required. It's not as if Moyes is going to come in demanding a new GK.
Issue is how they work together in summer.
It's clear that Moyes isn't going to want to report in to Thelwell and be considered as a coach who simply implements Thelwell's preferred style of play. But that isn't the existing system. Don't forget Thelwell wrote a book on 3-5-2, signed Conor Coady, and has been working with (and signing players) for Dyche!
If I were CEO I'd recognise that a manager like Moyes will now necessitate a change in the org chart. But in any big company you should modify that over time anyway.
Maybe Thelwell become head of recruitment reporting into Moyes
Maybe he becomes "Director of Sporting Operations" and deal with integration of academy and first team
To be honest I don't understand what his current remit is, and it's obvious that what he actually does differs from what he's supposed to be doing anyway.
It's not clear but you have 3 options:
1. Sack everyone and implement a new structure from the start
2. Keep things as they are
3. Aim for stability, but make changes where you need to, monitor, and improve things over time.
Seems like we're going for 3. Previous Message
...his role might change somewhat given the amount of input Moyes had in his previous time with us.
Given the period of limbo that we've been in, I would hope that Thelwell would have carried out extensive analysis of the players he thinks can improve us, and now that TFG are in, maybe we can start working on some of those.
It would probably be foolhardy to just abandon all of that and also presumably have to pay off the remainder of his contract? Previous Message
