If TFG wanted a complete overhaul I think the risk of replacing him with someone else, even if that person was marginally better on paper, isn't worth taking. After all, Thelwell has been in the role a few years, will have targets lined up, and should be ready to go for next two transfer windows. January to bolster first team (ideally 3 new players) then summer you have the major rebuild.
The fact Moyes was available when TFG completed the take over, and wasn't announced on day 1, shows that it wasn't our first choice situation. The big open question is how much of a departure it will be from what they wanted to do.
I am cautiously optimistic that the Moyes/Thelwell relationship will be no worse than Dyche/Thelwell. And I don't think Thelwell will chuck his toys out about not having control of the managerial appointment.
I suspect they'll both try to work with each other as best they can, and we just cross our fingers that they're reasonably aligned. After all, they're both professionals, experienced, and this situation isn't new to either of them.
Had Mourinho or someone similar they'd have their own list of transfer targets, but also the means to attract them (e.g. Ancelotti with Rodriguez and Allan). My hope is that when Thelwell presents his list of targets to Moyes it'll be minor tweaks. Maybe Thelwell likes 3 or 4 players and of that list Moyes wants a veto on 1 or 2. There's so many other factors beyond Manager/DoF agreement (e.g. transfer fee, player's desire to move etc) it might work out ok.
I think the bigger issue is what happens in summer, if we survive. At that point we'll need a major overhaul and it remains to be seen whether Moyes will want greater responsibility and control. To be fair, if he keeps us up with an improvement in playing style, that wouldn't be the worst thing.

He mentions working with the TFG to build the club.
Absolutely no mention of Thelwell in any statement I've seen.
Maybe Kev will be next to him on the paste table at the contract signing
At this point it's not looking great for Kev
