He was given the job to keep us up on zero (or negative?) transfer budget. He is playing to those terms - and grinding out results.
The situation is not even like when we hired Allardyce to "steady the ship" but still let him spunk 60m+ on transfer fees and wages on Walcott/Tosin in January. And we kept playing shit football when safe anyway.
Dyche knows his job is to keep us up again this season above everything else and he sets us up accordingly. I am genuinely worried this season though - seems like our goals from set pieces have dried up and we have looked shakier at the back.
I hope I am wrong.
In 2019 Silva took his Everton team to Turf Moor and lost 1-0 to Sean Dyches Burnley. A few weeks later he was sacked and replaced by Carlo whose first again was a 1-0 home win against Sean Dyches Burnley.
Five years later and Marco Silva is one of the most highly regarded managers in the PL and not just a flavour of the month manager out of his depth. I doubt he would want anything to do with Everton now and perhaps will be eyeing the Spurs job which inevitably become available within the next year.
Dyche meanwhile is playing the exact same tactic in 2024 as he did in that 1-0 win in 2019 because ideas of growth, development and progress hold no meaning for him.
