Unfortunately, this is particularly the case with the USA, which has huge power to affect what happens elsewhere. It's naïve to think that politicians who I'm sure are terrified of the damage trunk can do could or should slagging him off like we do on a message board. The priority is to soften the negative impact of a Trump presidency on Ukraine and climate change. Whether that will work is another matter. At the same time the British government has to strengthen relations with Europe so that the continent connect with a degree of independence. I'm sure that's what Lammy will be doing irrespective of what he says in public about Trump.
