I have been on a big music rediscovery of a band lately, a band that was my first true love and used to put the vinyls on after dinner with my parents in the 70s (mainly super trouper and the visitors albums) and get the lyrics and all sing along (understand that sounds supergay)
ABBA
It's still AMAZING! Wow what a band, the music, the vocals, jesus christ, so much talent, it IS historic on a level up there with Bach/Mozart/Tchaikovsky. The musicality is off the charts and I still feel underrated, it's not just pop, it draws from musical history, but it can be subtle so you miss how eclectic it is.
I put this up with special mention as a disco classic - the pre chorus (in the sun light..) is a bit rocky boxing/survivor soundtrack and most bands would go to chorus after, but ABBA go for the second pre chorus and it changes course and goes all middle eastern (I know what's waiting there for me...) before resolving into the chorus which just answers the whole build up..
(Abba don't like this song apparently, perhaps as it sounds like beegees)
