The Ipswich performance was very good, although we concede a penalty and it could easily have gone the other way. Decent point against Newcastle, again though a bit lucky that Gordon fluffs his lines with the pen. Fulham we were shite and managed to grab a last ditch point. About par.
Same pattern today, game in the balance till the end and we fell short.
Treading water. Very disheartening.
If we were 2-0 down by half time and they’re doing oles then you totally blame the manager.
But they had a narrow win based on the slimmest of VAR calls.
Regardless of result, I don’t think Soton think that game was an easy win.
You might say it’s the managers job to us to make sure we never get beat by teams in the relegation zone, but that’s totally different to what I said.
Yet we got beat by the team bottom of the league who hadn’t won a game all season
We’re not hard to beat
If he weren't a stubborn, arrogant, resolute human being then he wouldn't be a PL manager and definitely wouldn't have coped with being in charge of us the last few years. So although I'd like to see a little contrition, self-awareness and flexibility I give him a pass on that.
Indeed today's game was a Dyche type defeat. We "won" the XG and were unlucky. And I'd prefer that to the type of implosion we've seen in recent seasons. Regardless of how well Beto did with the offside "goal" had he put his header on target we'd have gone 1-0 up and the Dyche game plan would have been executed well. The manager's job is that we're hard to beat, defensively organised and players work hard. If the centre forward can't bury those chances then we'll always struggle.
I see how, when looking at the results and fixtures things look very angsty. But today just showed we're an attritional team that don't have enough clinical players to avoid needing some luck to win games, and the PL is a genuinely difficult division with no easy games.
Disappointing, but same old same old.
I could do with some nice distractions in my life at the moment.
Not this shower making me more anxious.
If it wasn’t for the new stadium, we wouldn’t have much going for us.
So, this happened. But it is what it is, until it isn't.
