In the course of my work I had to attend a few. In most cases there was no need of legal representation. In others, particularly where families were anxious about issues of negligence, legal representation was definitely useful and I would recommend. Unlike judges in their courts, the coroner asks the witnesses for their evidence directly but your representative will ensure you know what's going on and that your concerns are being addressed.

My mum passed away last month and it's been taken up (at my request) by the coroner, who've already set up a pre-hearing for the middle of November. Due to the quick turnaround we don't have any legal representation yet and are flying completely blind. If anyone on here has been in a similarly unfortunate situation I'd be grateful of the benefit of your experience
