Not playing against Doncaster is probably a compliment
He was on the bench against Fulham and Villa. He played against Wolves as Keane was out. Keane came back in and Branthwaite was dropped back to the bench Vs Doncaster. Following that shitshow, Keane was out of the squad again and Branthwaite established himself.
Last season Branthwaite, who had played for England u21 during the summer, came back to training later than everyone else and carrying a knock
He missed the 1st 2 games only
He played in the 3rd game at home to Fulham which we lost by the way, then he played at Sheff Utd and he was booked in both games
There was no injury crisis
is the simple answer. Jake O'Brien can head a ball, tackle and has pace.... his reading of the game at PL level has yet to be seen.
Dyche needs to be questioned on this as he is the only one who can explain his team selections. Its seems he is giving preference to his two experienced cenbtre halves... lets not forget he did the same with Branthwaite and only played him when an injury crisis forced him. Once in, Brants took his chance and O'Brien will have to do the same as far as I can see.
