And Big Sam?
Ultimately the club will not be successful by any measure until there is a competent and ambitious owner, with a plan in place.
Until then, every issue just goes back to the top.
Dyche, Moyes, progressive young manager, it doesn’t really matter who is at the helm. We are going nowhere fast and it’s been this way for years.
And in that situation, it probably is Dyche that is best suited to working under those conditions.
In some years from now when the modern crop of managers and their style is no longer popular and we move back to a more pragmatic approach to football (for example), will the world then have moved on from dinosaurs like them too?
I’d have Moyes back in a heartbeat. Not because I think he’s necessarily the long term answer to success and glory, but because generally speaking he has a good track record in stabilising clubs and moving them on from positions of relative crisis into something better.
Maybe he’s a medium term stepping stone to get the club back on track and then we can reassess in a few years’ time if it’s decided that he’s not the long term answer.
Or we can gamble on a young ‘progressive’ coach from overseas who may or may not make the grade. All the while, we’re pointless and bottom of the table in one of the most critical seasons in the club’s history.
At this moment in time, given Dyche’s clear failings, I know what I’d choose.
Had a team of top level internationals at Hammers, but wouldn’t let them play. Most boring team in the Premiership. A young, forward thinking manager is needed. The old games can be watched on YouTube.
with David Moyes. For me he totally showed what the 11 years meant to him. It became part of him, it wasn't just a job in football. He also showed the passion Bill Kenwright had for the club. Apparently he was the cause of much of our present problems according to TPFers who know more about him than I do, but Moyes certainly showed me another side. I think it would be a bad move to sack another manager but the one man I would bring in to replace Dyche at this point would be David Moyes. He'd be the perfect manager to take us through the next move to the new stadium. We need a steady hand just to get us on a good footing as a new owner comes in. Then give him a directorship. When you hear him talk about the players that were brought in, when he had little money to work with, you want to cry. Ifr you could possibly take trophies out of the argument then he stands level with any manager we've ever had. Bring a Blue home. If you haven't seen the podcast here's the link.
