Why should anybody be "protected" if they choose a sport where the fundamental idea is to beat up others?
mean their bodies develop in the way that a male’s does, thereby giving them a physical (and possibly dangerous) advantage over genetic females. The Boxing authorities think yes, the IOC, no.
It is no fault if the women involved, but there is a valid argument about protecting women in a sporting environment and putting all the rhetoric to one side.
