Moyes took over a struggling League One Preston side, took them into the Championship (and got to the final of the playoffs) inside three years.
He then took over a struggling (/ doomed) Everton side and, despite not winning anything, turned the team into a consistent top seven side (six of his last seven seasons), and a 4th placed finish in addition to that, with a net spend of about £1m a year.
Man Utd - hiding to nothing but still has the 5th best win % ratio of all their managers.
Sociedad / Sunderland - shite.
West Ham - saved them from relegation (twice), has two top seven finishes in four years and won a European Trophy.
Dyche managed Watford to a mid table finish before he was sacked. Took over at Burnley and got them promoted with an incredible record in the Championship. Got relegated the next season but then took them back up. Had one excellent season (finished 7th and made Europe) before fighting relegation every year, eventually getting sacked when four points behind us with eight games to play.
He’s done great to keep us up the last two years in near impossible circumstances.
Moyes has nine years on Dyche so there’s still time for him to play some catch up. But as of now, best you could say is Dyche has had three good seasons with Burnley (two promotions and the top seven PL finish) plus a good season with us (this year) and doing well to keep us up (last year).
I’m surprised and delighted at what Dyche has been able to achieve in just keeping us up, but Moyes is a long way ahead of Dyche on pretty much every conceivable measure.
He was at Everton for 11 years and didn’t win anything. Accepted that he did get us into Champions League with a 4th place finish.
Dyche had no money to spend at Burnley and managed to get them qualified for Europe.
He had even less to spend with us over one and an half seasons and has improved the team and results considerably.
Moyes moved to the biggest club in the world with a huge budget and won nothing.
He went to Spain and won nothing.
He has had a considerable amount to spend in West Ham and won a secondary European competition which he should be given credit for but the West Ham fans don’t like his brand of football and want him gone.
I really would like to see what Dyche can achieve with some money to spend before saying that Moyes achieved more than he ever will
Moyes has achieved far more than Dyche ever will (and I’d take him over Dyche) but it’s all a little bit bald men fighting over a comb.
If we were looking for a new manager I very much doubt we’ll be shopping at anywhere other than the Aldi end of the scale. Moyes would very likely be the best of that group, knows the club, would settle in the area etc.
It’s academic tho because, unless we go into administration, Dyche isn’t going anywhere, anyway (we won’t sack him and he certainly doesn’t have any better options).
West Ham are effectively only 5 points ahead of us, and with no European football next year.
Moyes was definitely right for Everton when he was here first time, but what makes him so appealing over Dyche right now?
One thing is for certain: Dyche didn't take a knife to our most recent gunfight...
