We don't have much guile or creativity so our primary tactic is to press and win turnovers high up the pitch, transition quickly and hopefully get something.
It's more effective against home teams who - mostly - will have more of the ball and play more expansively. It's not as effective against more direct teams and/or teams who sit back/counterattack - which is often how a lot of away sides will play. So far, set pieces seem to be our only reliable avenue to a goal in the latter case.
Desperation thinking maybe but could Gomes be our only chance of slightly changing that? I can't think of anyone else in the squad who might provide a bit more creativity. (Ali is even more farfetched, obviously).
Patterson or Coleman overlapping from RB could help. Dyche obviously doesn't have any confidence in Patterson, however, and while Godfrey can get forward he's pretty useless when he gets there. Coleman could probably do it well for an hour? Patterson could be both our worst RB defensively but our best offensively. Onana's return offers a little bit more creativity, more threat from set pieces.
Does it boil down to just taking more risks in home games? Selecting 'riskier' players, playing one or two players higher up the pitch, etc? God knows.
we've sold every flair player we had
We've sold any players who had some pace so we are left we slow players who can't go past a man
What we are left with is a mixture of free transfers and loan signings
It is never going to be a pleasing watch on the eye
What we do well is be solid, be organised, restrict opposition opportunities and we create some good chances
Does it matter than we score more from set pieces - no it doesn't
On the pitch we have gained 30 points so far this season - only 6 fewer than the whole of last season with a much weaker squad than last season
