Very different from that Brighton game, I thought. In a good way.
That was a game of sitting back and catching them out on the break. A romp.
Yesterday was all about holding onto the ball and controlling play, which I thought we did very comfortably. I didn't think we had that in us, frankly. Previous Message
when I saw they'd equalised, I thought "here we go again" so it was pleasing that we found the extra gear to go on and win it. They're a decent side and it goes without saying that away wins are always more than welcome. Still, it's one game. Next thing is to consolidate this - we probably weren't as bad as prior results suggested but neither are we now by any means assured of rapid progression up the league. Let's hope this isn't a one-off a la Brighton last season. The developing CB partnership and having two big, strong yet mobile and effective strikers to choose from are huge fillips and while there are other areas of the side that are a bit of a concern, we have at last showed we can find a way to get the ball in the net, and you would hope that the new signings will be on their way to bedding in. Top priority now should be finding some consistency and hopefully stringing together an unbeaten run. Previous Message
Genuinely can’t remember the last time I did. Always try to find a way to work around the game whenever I can, but today the weather was beautiful so we went out on the lake with the family for probably the last time this year.
Had a great time and then watched the highlights when I got back. Maybe I should have done it this way all along?!
Highlights showed a very strong performance and, obviously, a huge win. It’s great to finally have the depth we need up top. I’d start Calvert-Lewin while Beto is settling in but that’s a nice problem to finally have.
Still think we have a long season in store but there’s enough quality in the squad that - if we can avoid injuries - we should have enough to build on days like today and be ok.
Well in, blues
