I watch Everton and if we win I look at the negatives of a performance for perspective and if we lose I try and find some positives
Our fans are the same with our players
This time last year if everyone had been fit and it was a choice between Richarlison and Gray starting then Gray would have won hands down
Richarlison's best spell for Everton was in his first 18 months. When he 1st joined, after 3 months I thought he's going to Barca or Real within 12 months and we would double our money, but as much as he tried and boy you could never fault his enthusiasm or effort the quality especially in his last 2 seasons was not there.
It says a lot that Chelsea, who were desperate for attacking reinforcements, weren't interested, Barca bought Raphinha, Arsenal bought Jesus, Liverpool bought Nunez, no one was interested in Richarlison apart from Spurs who then sit him on the bench when everyone is fit
Its the same with Pickford
He makes a bog standard save and suddenly he's the best keeper in the world. That's a keeper's job, they do that all the time. I watched Allison's 3 saves last night which Pickford woudldn't have got near, yet our fans think because he pulls off the odd reflex save, he's superhuman. If Pickford had pulled off those 3 saves last night over the course of a month our fans would be wanking themselves silly about it
Again Pickford has been with us 5 years
We are cash strapped
No one has ever even enquired about him - Why ?
Gordon had played 15 games yet clubs are queuing up to buy him for £40/£50m
Ours are the only fans who rate him
Pickford is at the bottom of all the goalkeeper related stats and stats rarely lie
I'm hoping that Pickford has a brilliant world cup so someone might come in for him and we could at least get our money back
I'm not sure anyone is paying £30m though Previous Message
...nah, only joking!
I absolutely respect everyone's right to an opinion but also respect the right to challenge that opinion, and whilst the bare bones of the stats might be accurate, football isn't all about just about goals scored, and anyone that didn't see the amount of effort that Richarlson put in on the pitch for Everton, plus his positive effect on the mentality of the overall squad, is just being wilfully ignorant IMHO. Without him (any ironically Pickford, hi Jez!) in that run-in we would have been relegated - I have absolutely no doubt about that.
Regarding the circumstances of his sale, Spurs had us over a barrel as they knew exactly what our financial circumstances were, why we needed to sell and when we needed to sell by - exactly the same as Man United did with Rooney in 2004 - and yet I still see people asking what more the board/Kenwright could have done! Uhm - maybe not got us into that/those financial situation(s) in the first place yeah?!?
If Richarlison was still an Everton player now then we would almost certainly be in a better league position, and we could almost certainly sell him in January/the summer (maybe even to a club that he actually wanted to go to!) for more than £60m - and I think it's pretty likely that Spurs will do exactly that.
We're (still) an absolute shambles. And not just in the boardroom
