since the train basically stops outside of Bodö (Middle of Norway) and if you want to go further north by train I think there is some link through sweden which could take you to Narvik which is still quite far south in Norway (in my opinion atleast)
IF you are going to Northern Norway you must go to Lofoten which is a marvelous area out by the coast. ending up in either Bodö or Narvik means you should easily be able to travel to Lofoten. I haven't been there since 40 years ago i suppose, but I have lots of family there
If you choose to go further north, visit Tromsö which is called "The nordic Paris", full of pubs and a beautiful city.
You could always try to go by the coastal steamer further north, there are lots of beautiful places and nice people along the coast, you could even end up in Kirkenes (but you will pass by Nordkapp on your way there, so a chance to go there would be nice too) and once in Kirkenes it is just a few kilometers to the russian border, cross it and the rest will solve itself.
