I'd add Yakubu to the list of more expensive signings. I have the feeling there was the odd big money transfer every two or three years, but not all the time like the rich clubs made.

A fade out though instead of the ridiculously slow starts we used to do.
Also the standard refusal to gamble at any point on spending real money. Yes for a large part of the time he was here he didn't have much to spend, but we still had some significant transfers - Fellaini, Johnson, Beattie.
Not every year was Yobo and Arteta on loans.
