Where's the 'he's the best thing to happen to this club in at least a decade' option? nt
After opening with a positive rating of 7.32 on the day of his appointment, Lampard had slumped to 5.43 in v2.0 after the reality he had no magic wand for our squad limitations hit home. 2 months on and with our last day humiliation away to Arsenal helping to wash away the euphoria from Thursday's survival, we now snapshot our end of season opinion of the man in charge.
On the down side the facts show Frank Lampard took over the with the club 4 points above the drop zone in 16th place, and nearly four months later the season ends with us 4 points above the drop zone in 16th place which doesn't show any notable progression under his leadership. Further to this Lampard often sent out teams with glaringly obvious tactical issues that immediately came to pass, and even when we win games it's generally been a result of hard work and set pieces rather than being able to create and take chances in open play. Our ability to defend set pieces remains equally poor.
In terms of positives, Frank was not too stubborn to admit he was wrong trying to play progressively and eventually switched to a back 5 direct ball counter attacking style which managed to earn us some unexpected and crucial ugly wins in recent weeks. While 16th to 16th doesn't show progression, the team and form he took over from Benitez were in absolute freefall and it would be unfair not to recognise that stopping that rot was quite an achievement. Finally, he gets us, he really truly does. The way he has generally spoken about the supporters in recent weeks, his heartfelt tribute to Seamus Coleman, and of course his dancing on the directors box with the fans in jubilation on Thursday, Frank has been a complete and utter, not to mention entirely necessary, breath of fresh air for Evertonians after the cranky spoilt child that nobody ever wanted that was Benitez.
Maybe he won't be the man to bring success back to the club but for me it's enough for now that he has been able to send Evertonians off for the summer with smiles on their faces after such a horrific season.
So how do we feel about Frank Lampard as manager of Everton Football Club now the basic requirement of Premier League survival was achieved?
