If anything I think he put out a more experienced line up than he would have wanted to preempt any complaints from Tottenham
The first team were wiped out after Thursday. If we'd needed a result we would doubtless have had them all on painkillers etc and put short term concerns over long term damage risks. Since we were safe we didn't need to. He did the right thing for the club not playing Gordon etc. Previous Message
Ok we were safe and the hard work was done, but all of those players got paid thousands of pounds this week and that sort of showing is not good enough.
It was all basic stuff. Win your tackles. Close your opponent down. Track your runner. I was there and very disappointed to not see a glimmer of a performance. Previous Message
Many people said it was a nothing game, I do not agree.
Fans had travelled long distances to see Everton play a competitive game, not to watch them just rollover. Other teams have been criticized for being at the beach while playing our relegation rivals. I am sure Spurs and their supporters would not have been pleased to see our starting lineup.
A point yesterday would have seen us move up one place and collect a couple of million pounds, not bad when we got Gray for 1.7.
If we had needed a draw or a win to secure our PL status, that would not have been our team selection. If Everton get beaten 4 or 5 goals, well that happens, but actually fielding a team that you expect to be hammered in my opinion is not acceptable. I don't think we can take liberties like that.
