Therefore those added injuries could be a result of this. Perhaps the previous staff would've better managed the return of injured players having had a better understanding of past recovery etc.

Short answer is all the bad decisions that have been made during Moshiri time culminated in this season. Benitez was just the last in a line of bad mistakes. Because of these mistakes we have a squad that doesn't fit any style thanks to signing managers with different styles. And thanks to poor signings we were hit by FFP so there was no money to fix things either. Not that it would have mattered, Brands was powerless so it would have been left to Benitez to spend any transfer kitty.

Despite that let's not forget that we had a completely ridiculous amount of injuries. Only Leeds was even close. Some of those were critical. We wouldn't have been in such crisis even with just normal number of injuries.

And even with all that, if we hadn't constantly been screwer over by the refs and VAR we still wouldn't have been in this mess. We would have been safe much sooner.

Those two last points are in no way meant to say that we are not that bad. We are poor. Lots need to happen over summer.

Lampard is not in this alone. With Benitez I felt the other coaches were more less there to put down cones. Benitez made all the decisions. Lampard has a capable backroom that by the sound if he actually listens to. He also seems to have a good working relationship with Thelwell. This is different from most of our managers and DoFs. Benitez totally shunned Brands to a point he resigned. Koeman hated Walsh. Ancelotti seemed to get his men. I very much doubt those signings were Brands' ideas.

Another big summer ahead. Hopefully Moshiri lets the pros handle team building this time.

Having taken a look at how the season has gone, I notice that all is not well at Everton. It looks much like the horror years of 90's, although it didn't go to the last game this time.

What is it that makes Everton – in many aspects a huge enterprise with very good and loyal worldwide following – such shambles of a football club? Why is this whole saga yet again turning into another Apotheosis of Underachievement?

I was extremely suspicious towards the Benitez recruiting, and was certain that he wouldn't last more than 16-18 months at max, but he overdid even that. Then why did we take Lampard as the new manager? Were there any signs that pointed out him being good enough? I doubt it. Why not go for DF?

To have six managers in six years tells the whole story. Obviously Moshiri doesn't have a clue.

A new season will always bring new hope, and football fans are often blind in their optimism, but I have a feeling that it can go from bad to worse, unless there's some stroke of luck.

To have ended the season in relegation would have been a terrible blow, as the gone year has been such a success to myself. Luckily there's some breathing space for another year.
