Putting the issues at the club to one side, this season has been a real reality check for all us supporters. We may be a big club, we have a wealthy owner but it counts for nothing if we’re not all pulling in the same direction. As fans we should never take our place in the Premier League for granted and equally we need to do our bit to get us through difficult games or moments.

I know there’s a lot of uncertainty about what lies ahead but Lampard will hopefully recognise that as well big improvements in our league campaign, we should go all out to target the League Cup, a) as it immediately elevates him as a manager b) we get the monkey off out back of no trophy for 28 years c) it will give the whole club a lift d) it remains our best chance of winning a trophy
