He'd worked bits for 'First Wave Sports Agency'
... when we were kids. They were the company who paid Clough 50k in a shoebox for the Sheringham deal. Many of our league title winners asked him to be their agent, but he refused at the time.
Late, Jim Greenwood asked him to be a 'Facility Manager' at Euro 96 for the FA. The Anfield games went so well he was offered various roles, and had letters of recommendation from Blatter, Platini, etc.
Then Liverpool stepped in. People at Everton slaughtered hin for it, and his friendship with HK suffered as they distanced from each other.
Everton offered him the position many times, including offering to double his salary, but he was a very loyal man. As a result, he recommended Bill Ellaby, who was at Everton a good 15 years or so. He told me I was too young and wild to take it on, as I was pissed off he didn't put me forward. But he was, as always, absolutely correct. I'd have been a train wreck.
I wanted him to write a book and #### off to Louisiana, they'd never find him. And several tabloids already offered him proper money to serialise stuff, but he was a man of his word.
Me however, I'm quite happy if a tabloid wants me to tell them whose mistresses I took for abortions, whose money I had to take out the bank to buy off kiss & tell stories, or which former England striker banged a secretary at the training ground.
That’s class. As much as he’s more a red, I still have a soft spot for him.
I’m sure your dad had stories!!
Once they were playing Borussia Dortmund (I think) in the European Cup and we were playing Peterborough United in the League Cup (again I think, memory is sketchy). This must've been late 90s. Mobiles weren't what they are now.
An old boy in the Main Stand at Liverpool had a transistor radio and someone kept shouting to ask him the Everton score. When another fan shouted 'no-one ####ing cares lad', the person asking for the score stood up and said "I ####ing do." That was Carra
There was one season around this time, maybe late 90s (?), where we were flirting around the bottom of the division. We were never going down, but we needed the points to make sure with a good few weeks to spare. We won a home game, whilst Liverpool were at West Ham away. Coming down the tunnel, Carra asked my dad 'how did we get on Norm?', then proceeded jumping over my dad and other teammates, knowing Everton were safe.
He may be a red now, but he's also still a blue.
Including his use of ‘we’. What do others think regarding BK etc?
