The academy will be next
David Unsworth in the cross-hairs, than.
[affects Monty Burns voice] "Excellent".
“The club is a joke right now, you mentioned before about laughing stock. I wouldn’t go that far. If I go back to the days of the Moyes era, Everton had something about them.
“Yes they didn’t win a trophy and it’s easy to laugh at them but there was a spirit about them, a fight - it was a tough place to go Goodison Park. They stood for something. It’s not long afterwards that Moshiri came in and all of a sudden because we couldn’t break that ceiling, because we didn’t have the money under David Moyes, to go that step further.
“Moshiri comes in, I look at how many managers he’s had in that time and how much has been spent. If we count interim managers he has had eight managers. He is almost on his third director of football. The money spent is mind-boggling and they’re actually getting worse, Everton.
“In that time under Moshiri they’ve signed 58 players so that’s what I’m talking about this club being an absolute mess and a bit of a joke right now. Now at this moment on the board at Everton they’ve got Bill Kenwright and Denise Barrett-Baxendale who are Everton supporters and love that club. And then you’ve got the money guys in terms of Moshiri in the background.
“There is no way in the world Bill Kenwright and Denise Barrett-Baxendale wanted Rafa Benitez anywhere near that club. But, the problem we have is that they’re so terrified of going against Moshiri or questioning Moshiri in anyway in board meeting or wherever that may be because he’s the guy with the money who’s going to produce that stadium for them. Without him there is probably no stadium going forward and that’s a big problem. The decisions being made by Moshiri are really poor.
“He hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing hence the eight managers, his third director of football, players getting signed left right and centre. That comes down to Moshiri, yes he has the money but he’s got no footballing expertise at all.”
and on Brands...
“Part of it. I don’t think he’s solely to blame at all. I mentioned before that Everton have signed 58 players since Moshiri has been there.
“He hasn’t been there all the time. I’m not defending him but there is no way he’s picked any of the managers coming in, he certainly has not been involved in all the players coming and really I don’t know what he was doing there. Director of football is quite high profile coming from PSV Eindhoven where it’s a big part of that football club, they run the club - that was certainly not the case at Everton.
“I don’t think Brands wanted Rafa Benitez at the club. I think off the back of the last home game there was video going round social media of Marcel Brands confronting supporters, or they confronted him, and he said it’s not all about the players so there was definitely a divide there.
“Rafa Benitez, I know, in his management was all about managing with conflict, he has problems with his clubs wherever he is at. That’s just his history, that’s the way he works. I think it stimulates him and control. That’s what he’ll be looking for at that club. In four months the head of medical has gone and the director of football has gone. I think the academy will be next.”
