It cant be the manager, as we keep changing them and we don't improve.
I think we've got Kenwright, Moshiri and Brands all making decisions and giving their opinion regarding the transfers and set up.
Throw in a new manager every 18 months with their views and its a disaster zone.
Somone needs to be directly accountable for picking the manager, the youth team manager, the style, transfers and youth setup and Moshiri/Kenwright need to stop interfering. Basically a director of football, not just in name as Brands is.
I have no idea who Brands has signed or hasn't, but if it seems the easiest thing to do would be to get someone in who can do the above and just leave them too it. It's the reset the club needs.
If (and itís a big if) Moshiri can recognise his own culpability in the current mess, and agree to stop meddling then I think we can finish the season strongly
Brands had Dumfries lined up for ages, but Benitez vetoes. Thatís not Brandsí fault, who then lines up Maitland Niles but Arsenal dick is about. I think that is a somewhat inevitable issue with a new manager coming in. Brands and Benitez have had a few months now to get on the same page.
I donít mind the DoF and manager both having a say on transfers. I donít think it works to have it entirely one or the other. No point brining in King if the manager doesnít play him. But you want someone to build a squad long term. Brands would have been foolish to push back on Townsend, Begovic, Rondon given that the manager wanted them, short contracts, and PL experience.
Key thing is Brands now needs to be giving Benitez a different choice set to what he was giving Ancelotti. Maybe Jan is still too early but I honestly think we shouldnít still be clearing out deadwood before adding players (other than RB, who we need).
The biggest problem with Brands is why we lose Small and have no back up LB.
Itís ok having 2 people work together on transfers. The problem is itís a new manager so will take some time. There main things is we need to ensure it is only 2 people - not Bill bringing in Rooney, or Moshiri wanting Iwobi.
You look at the players weíve been linked to - Diaz, Patterson, etc. I still think Brands can fix the mess that Walsh left.
